The method involves generating laser pulses using a laser resonator with a saturable semiconductor absorber (2) for passive mode coupling. The effect of radiation on the saturable semiconductor absorber in the laser resonator is controlled. The saturable semiconductor absorber has different absorption ranges which are used sequentially to generate the laser pulses in segments temporally limited to when the radiation fluctuation is minimized. An Independent claim is included for a pulse laser with passive mode coupling.
