Device for production of monochromatic X-radiation comprises an X-ray source (1), a monochromator (2) and a slit-collimator (3) that are arranged relative to each other so that X-radiation of a defined energy is reflected from the monochromator and passes through the collimator to form a fan-shaped beam for examination of an object. An Independent claim is made for a method for producing monochromatic X-radiation in which radiation from an X-ray source in incident on a monochromator, such as an HOPG crystal, and then passes through a slit collimator. The relative positions of the device components are adjusted so that the angle of incidence (theta) of the X-radiation fulfills a certain condition for generation of X-rays of a certain energy that will pass through the slit collimator.
