A rod-system (RS) ion trap has four hyperbolic pole rods (HPR) (1-4). The first HPR (1) is hollowed to show a pit (5) that has a base with a slot (6), through which ions can be ejected radially from the interior of the RS. Overlay of higher multi-pole fields and its creation of non-linear resonances can be achieved with an electric voltage on the first HPR unequal to voltages on the other HPR.
