A monolithic capillary block for protection against flooding, esp for damming and for the storage of water and other fluids, consists of vertical capillary sections which are round, quadratic or square, which suck up water through capillary action, to fill the block, in the same way as water is drawn up by tree roots to supply the leaves. The block consists of extruded polypropylene with silaceous earth to assist in drawing up the fluid.
