Money paying in method for use with an automated cash machine or automatic teller machine, whereby the person paying in banknotes (BN) inserts them in to a paying-in compartment (3). The notes are transported to a testing module (5), with acceptable notes transported to a temporary storage compartment (8), while incorrectly entered notes are returned to an output compartment (6) and unidentified notes are rejected back to a second output compartment (7) so that the customer can resort and re-insert them.
