The lifter for the front bonnet of a motor vehicle has two telescopic strut sections (2,3) and an energy store which, if the release is operated releases its energy abruptly to extend the sections. The release has a pair of rollers (4,4') and an eccentric bolt (5,5') which selectively holds the rollers in the locking position of the telescopic sections and releases them selectively.
