The method for the determination of the occurrence of running disturbance of a motor vehicle internal combustion engine uses continuous monitoring of at least one cylinder parameter or value range. The parameter is monitored compared to a known value, for the spread of the measured engine speed during a predetermined number of rotations of the engine and-or a measurement for a rotational increase following an ignition during a predetermined number of rotations. Claims include a monitor for the engine operation using the method.
