The vehicle control method involves shutting off the engine brake if the revolution rate of the internal combustion engine reaches or exceeds a definable revolution rate that is determined from the sum of a desired idling revolution rate value determined by the controller and a definable switch-off offset value (noffsetmbraus). The idling revolution rate desired value (nlls) is determined depending on the current engine operating state.
