The biometric acoustic writing system (1) has a pen housing (31) for carrying out hand-guided movements on a substrate (4), at least one microphone (5) integrated into the housing for acoustic detection of sound signals caused by the movements of the pen and a data processing unit (11) for computing biometric data depending on the detected sound signals. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a method of generating person-specific biometric reference data (b) a method of verification and identification of a person (c) and a method of handwriting recognition.
