Porous material used for water purification and treatment has a crystal-analogous overstructure, which is formed by a regular structure of particles, whilst the characteristic dimensions of the various regularly arranged pores formed between these particles largely corresponds with and is within a very narrow distribution corresponding to the distribution of the characteristic dimensions in photonic crystals and consists (partly) of titanium oxide or TiO2.
