A method for protection against mechanical blockage/immobilization of stepper motor drives in which the motor torque is reduced by PWM for the travel towards the design end-stop or for reference travel and for direct travel from the design end-stop is controlled without PWM or the duty factors t on/t cycle of the PWM for the travel towards the design end-stop or reference travel are smaller than during direct travel from the design end-stop.
