Height-adjustable structure to protect against climatic influences and changing underground properties

Due to climatic influences, snow accumulation, drift snow and deformation of the subsoil, the construction, operation and dismantling of buildings in polar regions, especially in the Antarctic, is extremely difficult and the service life is limited. The location, arrangement and operation of the height-adjustable structure should circumvent the existing problems. DOLLAR A The building (1) forms a cover of a hall (2) which is flush with the ice surface and which is previously excavated from the firewall (3). The building is lowered or continuously raised by means of a pneumatic lifting mechanism (4) and the upper edge of the building is thus always held essentially on the surface of the varnish. The energy required for the lifting process is stored in the form of air pressure in large overpressure stores. DOLLAR A Due to its properties, this height-adjustable building with a hall below it is suitable for use in polar regions with surfaces made of snow, firn or ice.
