The combustion engine comprises a cylinder (1) with at least one inlet port (3) to which is connected at least one suction passage (4) divided into suction paths (8.1,8.2) by a deflecting element (7) which for radial deflection of the gas flow is fitted radially in the axial direction in the suction passage and twisted in spiral fashion. The deflecting element is located between a mixture preparation device (6) and the inlet port. The deflecting element divides the suction passage into suction paths which may be cross sectionally the same or cross sectionally different.
