Production of a component made from opaque quartz glass comprises: preparing a suspension made from granular silica and a liquid; homogenizing the suspension; pouring into a mold; drying the suspension forming a porous green body, and sintering to form a quartz glass component. Production of a component made from opaque quartz glass comprises: preparing a suspension made from granular silica (SiO2) and a liquid; homogenizing the suspension; pouring into a mold; drying the suspension forming a porous green body; and sintering to form a quartz glass component. At least a part of the granules are formed as porous granulate particles produced from agglomerates of amorphous synthetically produced SiO2 primary particles of less than 100 nm. The granules have a particle size of less than 1 mm.
