Program controlled unit with an on-chip debug support (OCDS) module has two voltage supply connections, the first to supply the program controlled module and the second to supply the whole or a part of the OCDS module. Thus the OCDS module or a part thereof can be supplied with power before the program controlled module. An Independent claim is made for a method for debugging programs running on a program controlled unit in which the OCDS module is supplied with power prior to the rest of the program controlled module. The OCDS module can then receive control information and be set to a predefined state before the program controlled module receives power.
