Medical system architecture comprises at least four imaging modules each with a corresponding workstation and a data transfer device for transfer of image data and messages between client applications (15) and server applications (16). The data transfer device also has storage and a processor for processing image data and messages. It has a proxy server assigned to it for conversion of messages between client and server. An Independent claim is made for a method for message (17) exchange between nodes of a network, whereby the message content is manipulated using transformation rules.
