The method involves measuring the current in the resonant circuit after a defined period corresponding to the time for an intact circuit to settle following the application of a voltage to the resonant circuit, comparing the measured current with a defined current corresponding to the current for an intact circuit at the defined time and diagnosing a deviation between the current values above a threshold as a fault. AN Independent claim is also included for the following: (a) a circuit for diagnosing a resonant circuit with at least one capacitor and at least one transmission coil.
