To fix toner images on a carrier web (10), flushing chambers (42,44) are fitted on both sides of the fixing chamber (18) for a mixture of solvent vapor and air to be extracted by suction through the passage gaps (16,20) at the chamber. The mixture (46) is passed through a condenser (48), and its air outflow (54) is passed back afresh to the flushing chambers. The exit for the web from a flushing chamber is sealed by a sealing roller.
