The position determination method uses a navigation receiver for providing position measurements from received global positioning satellite signals, with adjustment of the position measuring rate dependent on the attained position, e.g. by reducing the interval between successive position measurements upon reaching successive points along the movement path (C) at defined spacings from the required target point (B).
