A method for fitting a wooden upright beam to a foundation, e.g. a poured concrete foundation, has a connecting element (1) with internal reinforcing and fitted to the bottom of the wooden beam by various connectors. The connecting element has the same cross section as the beam and carries the full beam loading and is located into a prepared socket (14) in the foundation. Various methods can be used to connect the beam to the connecting element including outer clamping plates. The connecting element can be pre-fitted to the beam before installing.
