Cannula, in particular for spinal anesthesia, with a rigid cannula tube (2), the distal end of which has a region (6) tapering towards an insertion tip (4) and a lateral outlet opening (8). The outlet opening (8) is arranged in the tapering region (6) of the cannula. As a result, the outlet opening (8) can be connected to the spinal space even at a small penetration depth. This reduces the risk of injury from the piercing tip (4). The outlet opening (8) enables a sufficient cross-section to allow a quick outlet at a lower speed. A method for producing such a cannula consists in that a distal end of a cannula tube (2) is provided with a region which is chamfered essentially over the entire cross section, and in that the cross section of the chamfered region tapers to an area which tapers towards an insertion point (4) is reshaped so far that a lateral outlet opening (8) remains between the edges of the wall of the cannula tube in the beveled area. A subsequent production of an outlet opening is therefore not necessary.
