The carpark building (1) has a central elevator shaft (2) allowing the vehicles to be parked to be transported vertically to and from each of the parking levels via an elevator cabin (10), having guide shoes fed along guide rails (7) of the elevator shaft. The latter is provided with fire barriers for limiting the spread of a fire, provided by mirror-symmetrical fire barrier plates on opposite sides of the elevator shaft, secured to the ceiling (3) of each floor.
