The lubricating device for a gear (13), preferably in a powered hand tool such as a right angle grinder, has a lubricant passage (30) located inside the gearcase housing the intermeshing gearwheels and with an opening (31) level with the meshing region (20) of the gearwheels (14,15), with a small gap in front of this region, and opens out in such a way that the lubricant is first delivered onto one gearwheel and from this is transported towards the meshing region of the gearwheels.
