Production of aromatic oligomers, e.g. semiconductors in field-effect transistors and organic luminescent diodes, comprises coupling of an aromatic lithium compound in presence of copper(II) compound
A process for the production of aromatic oligomers comprises dissolution of an aromatic lithium compound in an organic solvent or mixture at -100-20 degreesC and coupling together in the presence of a copper(II) compound at -(100)-20 degrees C. A process for the production of aromatic oligomers (I) of formula (1) comprises dissolution of an aromatic lithium compound of formula (2) in an organic solvent or mixture at -(100)-20 degrees C and coupling together in the presence of a copper (II) compound at -(100)-20 degrees C. n = 2-5; R1 = 1-20C alkyl optionally containing O or S atoms or silylene, phosphonoyl or phosphoryl groups; Ar = optionally substituted 1,4-phenylene, 2,7-fluorene or 2,5-thiophene. Independent claims are included for: (1) semiconducting layers (II) containing the compounds (I) and up to 0.5 wt.% chlorine and; (2) a process for the production of the layers (II) by application of the compounds (I) from solution or the gas phase on to a suitable substrate.
