The fault analysis method has the switch elements (T1-T6) of the half bridges (HB1,HB2,HB3) of the electronic control device (1) controlled in a series of switch steps, e.g. via a control logic (3), so that all switch elements are operated at least once, with detection of the overall currents obtained from the electronic control device and the voltage drops across the switch elements, for calculating the conduction resistance of each switch element, for comparison with the expected value, allowing a fault indication to be provided.
