The stent passes through the entire length of an aortic aneurism. It may repair an aneurism which extends from the level of the renal arteries to just above the bifurcation for the femoral arteries. The stent is introduced up one of the femoral arteries by a catheter, and has little hooks which catch in the side of the aorta or the entrances to the renal arteries when the catheter is withdrawn. The stent may expand to fill the sound artery above and below the aneurism and may have a bifurcation so that it can extend into both femoral arteries.
