The method involves monitoring an operating parameter of the electric machine (1) and/or its drive system. The reliability of an instantaneous torque (Mist1) of the electric machine is checked, and error correction is performed if the torque is not reliable. A reliable torque (Mzul) is formed from a desired torque (Msoll), and the instantaneous torque is determined to be reliable if it does to exceed a certain deviation from the reliable torque.
