The automat comprises an electronic coin tester/exchanger (16) with at least one test sensor (Cp1, Cp2) and an evaluation circuit (10) operating so that by inserting a coin either an acceptance or a rejection signal is generated. The coin tester/exchanger includes a coin storage or intermediate till. The acceptance or sale signal is passed to a controller which, depending on the state of the automat, produced either an enabling or inhibiting signal for the evaluation circuit (10). The test sensor has a corresponding sensor, which generates a wake up signal for the electronic coin tester and the controller. The evaluation circuit (10) has a logic circuit which causes the acceptance of the coins and also when the enable signal from the controller is absent.
