The optical waveguide crossing has a first and second integrated optical waveguides (3,4) that cross each other. At least one waveguide has reduced cross-section in the crossing region and/or passes at an increased crossing angle (alpha) to the other waveguide in the crossing region. The waveguides have reduced height and/or width in the crossing region.
