A system to monitor the condition of windshield (2) wiper rubber blades (1) in a motor vehicle comprises a sensor (4) and control unit (5) and display (7). The optical sensor detects streaks and marks in the wiping region (6) of the windshield wipers. An Independent claim is also included for a monitoring process for the above system.
