Method for automatic determination of the actual velocity range of a flowing medium, especially the blood within a blood vessel such as the aorta. Accordingly a localizer is recorded and displayed on a screen; a series of flow measurements is taken over a movement cycle, e.g. of the heart, the peak velocity is determined based on the flow measurement series; an optimized flow measurement series is recorded based on the determined peak velocity; and based on the optimized flow measurements, a velocity-resolved tissue area is displayed. The invention also relates to a corresponding MRT unit and computer software product for method implementation.
