The assistance system determines the velocity of the automobile and detects an obstacle or a vehicle ahead of the automobile, with evaluation of the distance of the automobile from the detected obstacle or vehicle, for providing information alerting the driver to a potentially dangerous situation. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a method for assisting an automobile learner driver; and (b) a method for teaching an automobile driver.
