An artificial esterase (I) based on an amino acid (aa) sequence (1) of 544 aa, given in the specification, or its variants with 50 % homology, having a mutation in the regions 74-79, 90-95, 110-114, 127-141, 193-197, 234-239, 288-296 or 365-372, and the N- and/or C-terminus shortened by up to 75 and 100 aa, respectively, is new. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) multimeric enzymes (Ia) that include at least one (I) as subunit; (2) recombinant nucleic acid (II) that encodes (I); (3) recombinant vector containing (II); and (4) expression system that includes a cell transfected with the vector of (3).
