The device for the separation of sheets of paper from a stack of sheets has a separation sucker (3) consisting of a housing (4) containing a suction air component (10) and a blast air component (11). The housing has a sheet guiding face (8) facing the uppermost sheet (7) and has blast air guiding surfaces extending in the direction of the rear side (9) of the stack, and a sucker (16) fitted with a section facing into sheet stack rear side. The blast air surfaces for the laying of the uppermost sheet on the sheet guiding face is charged with blast air, and the sucker for holding the uppermost sheet during the separation is charged with suction air.
