A method for detecting minutiae of a digital fingerprint image formed from discrete pixels. That the pixel situated in a location (UM1,UM2) of specifiable size of at least one pixel (PI1,PI2) of the finger print image (FIA) is correlated with pixels (IP1,IP2) of at least one ideal minutiae (IM1,IM2) likewise present as a digital image and on the basis of at least one correlation value (R1,R2) between the location (UM1,UM2) of the at least one pixel (PI1,PI2) of the finger print image (FIA) and the pixel values (IP1,IP2) of the ideal minutiae (IM1,IM2), the minutiae of the finger print image are ascertained.
