The golf shoe has on its sole downwardly projecting engagement elements (9) e.g. spikes or devices (10) for attaching same which are provided on at least one support (12 to 17) which is able to move to and fro and which is held and guided by guide devices (2) along a circular arc. The support can be a plastics slider and the guide device can be a matching circular arcuate groove. The support has a starting position where it closes flush with the edge of the sole.
