The sealing foil sleeve application method has a foil sleeve section (6) fitted over one end of the flat packaging container (7), which is supported perpendicular to its transport direction, with displacement of the foil sleeve section until it reaches a given position relative to the opposite faces of the packaging container, with subsequent heat shrinking of the foil sleeve. An independent claim for a sealing foil application device is also included.
