The apparatus to cool tissue samples, embedded in paraffin, has one or more cooling chambers (7) with cooling plates. Each chamber has a closure as a sliding door, a roller blind, a flap system or an accordion door with multiple folded pleats. The chamber base has a minimal icing, and the peripheral edge is also cooled as the air moisture freezes out at the upper edge away from the cooling surface, with the side walls at 90[deg] to the base. The cooling system for the chamber(s) has a compressor (1), condenser (2), fan (3), hot air outlet (4) and a cold air inflow (5).
