Railcar kinetic collision energy converter involves modules joined to car structure stiffly but otherwise drilled out to form deformable crush sectors to absorb kinetic energy of collision etc.
Modules (1-4) joined to the car structures in line of travel are stiff at the joins but otherwise drilled (6) or recessed to provide deformable sectors. The modules are heat-treated in their deformable or crush sectors and in any case are prefabricated and held in a frame (5) and so integrated into the railcar bodies.
