Method for producing a cleaning water surge within a sewerage network, especially in dry weather, whereby a drainage device (30) is connected to the sewerage network. The drainage device is kept closed for a given time interval and then opened to release the cleaning water surge. Independent claims are also included for the following:- (a) a drainage device with an adjustable choke element (52) operated by a drive unit that pivots about a mounting (36) under the action of an elastic element; (b) and a drainage system with a choke element and a sensor that generates a signal that is used to control the drive unit.
