The support structure for the body of a motor vehicle consists of two interconnectable modules, each forming a part of the structure. Each of the two modules (2,20) has at least one longitudinal support (17,18,37) spanning the length of the passenger cell (16) in such a way that the two modules fit over one another over the length of the passenger cell. The floor plate (3) of the passenger cell and sills forming the longitudinal supports are combined with a frame structure forming the front end (1) into a uniformly constructed module of conventional steel plate design.
