A method for driving/controlling a switch (T) in a switching converter which prepares an output voltage from an input voltage, in which the switching converter receives current with the switch (T) closed. Initially an independent control signal (Verr) is prepared from an output voltage (Vout) and a control signal (S1) having a control pulse is produced such that the drive pulses begin in the cycle of a saw-tooth signal (OSC) and ends independently of comparison of the saw-tooth signal with the control signal and the switching converter discontinuously receives current. The amplitude of the saw-tooth signal (Vsw) or the slope of the flanks of the saw-tooth signal are adjusted independently of the input voltage (Vin).
