Screening assay based on the forkhead transcription factor dependent sod-3 promoter to identify AKT modulating compounds or upstream regulators such as insulin / IGF1 receptors

The present invention relates to the identification and use of the sod-3 promoter responsive to DAF-2 / IR. Transgenic C. elegans with sod-3 reporter gene constructs are described which are suitable for identifying genes or compounds which are able to modulate the DAF-2 / IR-akt pathway. Conditions are disclosed under which reporter activity is increased or decreased, indicating the presence of either activators or inhibitors of the DAF-2 / IR pathway.
