The spring suspension system for motor vehicles consists of a piston and cylinder assembly with a working cylinder (3), piston rod (7) and damping piston (19) with damping valves, and as a compensating chamber (5) a shape-variable closed envelope component (2) with a connecting element fitted and inseparably retained in a bore in a piston rod guide (6). A retaining ring in the form of a spring ring is installed in a groove in the bore and interacts with a support face of the connecting element.
