Optical sensor module (10) for inkjet printer, has a narrow-band illumination source (20) for illumination of the print medium (40) with radiation (30) of a signal wavelength and a photo-detector (24) for measuring radiation (34) reflected from the print medium. The photo-detector is made with semiconductor material that has a narrow-band sensitivity that is matched to that of the illumination source. An Independent claim is made for an inkjet printer with an optical sensor module attached to the print head carriage for measuring the properties of a printed image.
