The windscreen wiper system for a vehicle has a drive with a driven shaft with a gear for the converting of a rotary drive motion of the driven shaft into a swinging motion of a wiper shaft. The driven shaft (8) of the drive unit (9) is guided through a wall of the vehicle's body, and the gear (7) is installed on the outer side of the body (2). The wiper shaft (5) supporting the wiper arm (3) is installed in the region in front of the windscreen (1) and at a distance from the driven shaft. The gear is installed on a plate (6.1) which is a component part of a gear housing.
