The catalyst reactor has a heated reactor tube (2) with a feed at the start for charging with organic materials. The materials are conveyed through the tube to be decomposed by a catalyst, and conversion carbon is taken off at the end by a funnel-shaped collector (4) with an outflow (16). A portion is returned to the start point as catalyst material by an inner conveyor screw (6). The reactor (1) is upright, and has an inner tube (5) concentric to the outer tube and powered to give it a slow rotation, for the organic material to travel downwards through the ring gap (7) between them. The upper end of the reactor tube is expanded into a round mixing trough (3) with a feed connection (13) and a gas take-off (10), and with at least one mixer blade (15).
