Two cylinder axial piston compressor comprises a swashplate mechanism producing linear movement of a piston rod (8) so that oil is prevented from reaching a piston (9) by an oil control ring (12). The return movement of the piston and piston rod is produced via a tilting arm (6) driven by opposite-lying moving mechanism parts. This tilting arm is supported externally on cams (23) on ball sockets (5) and in the center on a thrust bearing (7). The thrust bearing is loaded on its rear side with hydraulic oil which flows via a ball check valve (26) into the chamber behind the thrust bearing and thus backflow of the hydraulic oil is prevented. The tilting arm and thrust bearing have oil penetration bores which overlap in a certain tilting arm position and through which the hydraulic oil flows for a short time within each revolution of the swashplate (3) for lubrication in the mechanism (1). The tilting arm is mounted in the center on a bearing bolt which is hemispherical o n the bearing side and is axially adjusted on the housing side with a threaded pin and a lock nut to adjust the bearing play of the mechanism parts.
