A skin and hair treatment composition contains a detergent base; a cationic polymer; and a water-insoluble vegetable, mineral or synthetic oil component; admixed with a compound having a quaternary ammonium salt group bonded via an alkylene group to the nitrogen atom of a (cyclo)alkyl or aryl amide.
