The filtration element (14) is surrounded by a tubular, airtight casing (60) with parallel, open end faces (61, 62). The first end face (61) is sealed to the tube plate (4). Its second end face (62) makes sealed contact with the suction housing. Bounding surfaces (17, 18) with circular cross section are arranged concentrically with each other and with the plate opening (5). The filtration medium (33) forms walls (26) of flow channels (25, 31, 32) between the bounding surfaces (17, 18). The channels extend between the faces, to the center of the tube plate opening (5). Channel openings (28) of a first fraction of the flow channels (31) are associated with the inner surface (17). Channel openings (28) of the remaining second fraction of flow channels (32) are associated with the outer surface (18). The element comprises two parts set together with different spacings from the opening (5) and concentric about it. The more remote part has a smaller diameter than the adjacent part of the element. The bounding surfaces of the filter element are frustrated cones, the largest diameter being essentially that of the tube plate opening. The filter casing cross section is rectangular or circular. The filter element has various wound, pleated forms with separating windings which may be porous or impermeable. Windings are separated by spacers optionally formed by alternating pleating. The arrangement and its variants are further detailed in accordance with the foregoing principles.
